Will ‘Breaking Dawn’ Be Directed By Bill Condon?

Last month, word dropped that three Oscar-nominated direc­tors were on Sum­mit Entertainment’s short list to helm “Break­ing Dawn,” the yet-unannounced final install­ment of the “Twi­light” fran­chise: Gus Van Sant (“Milk”), Sofia Cop­pola (“Lost in Trans­la­tion”) and Bill Con­don (“Dreamgirls”).

Now, it appears Con­don has estab­lished him­self as Summit’s top choice for the gig, accord­ing to a Deadline.com report. No deal is yet in place, but sev­eral meet­ings have led to nego­ti­a­tions between the direc­tor and the studio.

What’s more, cit­ing unnamed sources, Dead­line reports that “Break­ing Dawn” will be split into two films (as has long been rumored) and will begin shoot­ing in the fall. The direc­tor search kicked off after “New Moon” direc­tor Chris Weitz declined the chance to return to the franchise.

MTV News’ request for com­ment has not yet been returned by Summit.

As made clear by the eight-time Oscar-nominated “Dream­girls,” Con­don has expe­ri­ence tak­ing estab­lished source mate­r­ial and churn­ing out a visu­ally dra­matic box-office suc­cess. He’s also dab­bled in super­nat­ural sub­ject mat­ter with “Gods and Mon­sters” (about the real-life direc­tor of “Franken­stein”) and hor­ror genre mate­r­ial with 1995’s “Can­dy­man: Farewell to the Flesh.” “Break­ing Dawn” promi­nently fea­tures horror-like ele­ments, includ­ing a bloody, super­nat­ural birth scene.

Con­don already has two projects lined up: an adap­ta­tion of the novel “Salmon Fish­ing in the Yemen,” star­ring Colin Firth, and a Richard Pryor biopic, star­ring Mar­lon Wayans. Both films would be delayed if Con­don works on the poten­tial two films of “Break­ing Dawn.”

Robert Pat­tin­son and Kris­ten Stew­art, mean­while, have already come out in sup­port of Van Sant hop­ping into the director’s chair. “It’s all about teenage love and obses­sions,” Pat­tin­son said of “Break­ing Dawn.” “I think Gus Van Sant would be great.”

Report Accurate: Bill Condon Frontrunner to Direct “Breaking Dawn”

The cur­rent fron­trun­ner to direct “Break­ing Dawn” is Bill Con­don, Gos­sip Cop can confirm.

Sum­mit Enter­tain­ment has yet to sign Con­don to the project, but the stu­dio and direc­tor are engaged in a nego­ti­a­tion process that has moved the direc­tor to the front of the pack, a rep for Sum­mit tells Gos­sip Cop, cor­rob­o­rat­ing an ear­lier Deadline.com report.

Con­don pre­vi­ously directed films includ­ing Kin­sey and Dream­girls.

Almost as long as the book itself, the saga of who would adapt it for the screen has gone through many twists, includ­ing a false rumor Gos­sip Cop busted claim­ing Gus Van Sant had already “signed” to do the project, and buzz last week that Michael Mann was a major candidate.

As of now, no final deci­sion has been made.

Sum­mit Enter­tain­ment n'a pas encore signé avec Con­don pour ce projet, mais le stu­dio egt le réalisateur sont en négociations et cela place le réalisteur en tête de liste des réalisateurs potentiels, a dit un représentant de Sum­mit à Gos­sip Cop, et ainsi corroborant l'annonce faite par Deadline.com .

Con­don a réalisé des films tels que Kin­sey ou Dream­girls.

Après de nombreuses rumeurs et de nombreux noms, Gos­sip Cop dément ces dernières : non Gus Van Sant n'a pas déjà signé pour réaliser Breaking Dawn ,et ce n'était qu'un buzz la semaine dernière pour Michael Mann .

Dreamgirl c'est le film avec Beyoncé que j'ai pas du tout aimé...Je le voyait pas du tout pour BD m'enfin on verra.

Tu me diras on disait ça aussi de Slade après ces propos sur la saga. Et puis pour le moment , rien n'est signé....

Chépa, c'est une question de feeling et puis j'ai tendance a avoir "peur" de ce que je connais pas (comme la plupart des gens d'ailleurs) mais je suis prête a revenir sur mon "sentiment" en regardant dreamgirl pour commencer... Et puis finalement avec un nom pareil, on prend pas de risque (si qqun me suis... )
